A good film evokes emotions, and emotions can be a complex spectrum that is hard to pinpoint. I spent years trying to find my voice and narrow down on an emotion that I can convey precisely. Ultimately, I followed my deepest desire in my heart and chose fear as my motive for filmmaking. Most associates fear as a negative emotion, yet I view it as the prime catalyst for excellent storytelling. Fear is the rawest, most primal emotions we as a species can experience: it is fear that drives us to a greater height, and it is fear that grants Prometheus’ descent its divinity. Fear makes us think about the life we have and feel about the joy we share, but most importantly, it helps us appreciate the passion of simply being alive. I believe fear is an emotion that transcends beyond its simple nature: it serves as a medium that evokes all the other emotions and blends them masterfully to brew the primordial soup that gives birth to catharsis.
